Equipment

  • medium saucepan with lid
  • wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • fork

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  • Melt butter or heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the rice and sauté for 2–3 minutes until lightly toasted.
  • Stir in chicken broth, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  • Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes until liquid is absorbed.
  • Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes. Fluff gently with a fork and serve warm.

Notes

Toasting the rice enhances flavor and texture. Keep the lid on while simmering to ensure even cooking. Let the rice rest before fluffing for perfectly separated grains. Adjust seasoning after cooking for best balance. Use low-sodium broth to control salt levels.
