Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • Oven
  • measuring cups
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 20 Oreo cookies
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 8 oz whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange half of the Oreo cookies evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cookies.
  • Spread the whipped topping gently over the milk layer.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate cake mix evenly across the top, breaking up any dry clumps.
  • Distribute the butter pieces evenly over the cake mix without stirring.
  • Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until bubbly and lightly crisp on top.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Do not mix the layers—dumping creates the signature texture. Use cold butter cut into small pieces for even browning. Let the cake rest 10 minutes before serving so the layers set properly. Best served slightly warm, though it can also be enjoyed chilled.
