Equipment

  • large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • knife for chopping shrimp and celery
  • cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 lb large cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 celery stalks, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • fresh dill (optional garnish)
  • lemon wedges (optional garnish)
  • extra paprika for sprinkling (optional garnish)

Instructions

  • Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat completely dry. Chop large shrimp into bite-sized pieces for even texture.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard until smooth and creamy.
  • Add garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir in diced celery and chopped chives.
  • Fold the shrimp into the dressing carefully, ensuring each piece is coated without breaking.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, use high-quality cooked shrimp and fresh lemon juice. Pat shrimp completely dry to prevent a watery salad. Dice celery finely for balanced texture. Chill at least 30 minutes before serving for authentic deli-style flavor. Taste after chilling and adjust seasoning if needed. Do not freeze, as texture will suffer.
