Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp olive oil

For the Garlic Butter & Topping

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast.
Stir gently and let rest for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
Create a well in the center, pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
Stir until the dough begins to form.
Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Shape into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  • Prepare the Garlic Butter
Mix melted butter with minced garlic and set aside.
  • Shape the Breadsticks
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Punch down the dough and roll it into a large rectangle, about ½ inch thick.
Brush the dough generously with garlic butter.
Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the top, leaving a slight border.
Roll tightly from the long side into a log.
Slice into 1-inch breadsticks and place spaced apart on the baking sheet.
  • Bake
Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Brush with any remaining garlic butter.
Sprinkle with Parmesan and fresh parsley.
Serve warm with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce!

Notes

  • Always allow dough to rise fully for the best texture.
  • Adjust baking time depending on oven differences.
  • Add more garlic for a stronger flavor or reduce for mild breadsticks.
