For the Apple Filling
- 6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
For the Cobbler Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
Preheat the Oven:Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C) so the cobbler bakes evenly.
Prepare the Apple Filling:In a large bowl, mix sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice. Toss gently until well coated. Let the mixture rest while you prepare the topping.
Make the Topping:In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar.
Add Wet Ingredients:Combine melted butter and milk in another bowl. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir just until blended. A few lumps are fine.
Assemble:Spread the apple mixture in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Spoon the batter over the apples and gently spread it. Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
Bake:Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling around the edges.
Cool and Serve:Let the cobbler rest for 10–15 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
- Frozen apples work well—just thaw first.
- Brown sugar adds a rich caramel depth to the topping.
- For extra crunch, sprinkle nuts over the batter before baking.
- Best enjoyed warm but also delicious chilled.
