Ingredients
  

  • 5 large day-old croissants, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • fresh berries or whipped cream (optional for serving)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange croissant pieces evenly in the baking dish and sprinkle chocolate chips throughout.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and fully combined.
  • Pour the custard evenly over the croissants and gently press them down to help absorb the mixture. Let rest for 10–15 minutes if desired.
  • Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until golden brown. Tent with foil during the last 10–15 minutes if browning too quickly.
  • Allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar. Serve warm with fresh berries or whipped cream if desired.

Use day-old croissants for the best texture and absorption. Allow the croissants to soak for at least 10 minutes before baking to ensure a rich, custardy center. Tent with foil during the final baking minutes if the top browns too quickly. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
